this quick and efficient assessment (25-30 minutes to administer, 10 minutes to score) is an ideal first tool for use immediately post-coma. information gained can be used for treatment guidelines and as a baseline on which to gauge progress. useful for determining best approach to communicate with patient. can be given in one or more short sessions, and yields cluster raw and standard scores and total raw score. raw scores can be converted to percentiles, standard scores, or severity score (severe, moderate, mild, borderline normal). test is sensitive to subtle change, and can be used to track recovery patterns. item clusters are designed to assess:
  • orientation and attention
  • following commands
  • linguistic organization
  • reading comprehension
  • naming, memory
  • visual-spatial skills
