shove-a-lugs grips work by enabling a person to use the palms of their hands to push the wheelchair, rather than gripping the thin ring at an awkward angle with a pinch grip. This is important for people with arthritic, painful or weaked hands. No gripping is required when using Shove-a-lugs. They are an ergonomic solution to an un-ergonomic mechanism.
